Guitar Lessons for Beginner or Intermediate students, kids welcome for $12
Class for guitarists. Whether you are just starting out or have already been playing for some time, there is something here for you to learn.
The first step is getting to know each other, this allows me to get to know your interests, aspirations and experience level to better tailor the lessons for you.
After that, I usually like to start by helping you learn a new song of your choosing, something you've never played before. From there, we can discuss improving technique or learning some music theory.
For technique, we will cover proper playing posture, chord and scale shapes, exercises for finger strength and dexterity, how to play melodies, strumming and picking patterns, fingerpicking, rhythm exercises, bass lines, and much more.
For music theory, my approach is to teach you how to play songs by ear as quickly as possible. After you have laid down some ground work, this will come easier than you think!
Many people hear music theory and think long boring white board discussions about Do-Re-Mi, learning to read music, etc. In truth, it is more about how to HEAR music and to put what you hear into use.
It is important to grasp that many musicians never studied music theory in an academic way, but using their ear they taught themselves the language of music more completely than even graduates of Julliard. This is akin to learning to speak a language the way native speakers know it, without needing to know the technical grammar.
However, some students learn better academically. For these students, I will cover how to read and write sheet music, composition, transposition, diatonic chord and scale theory, functional and nonfunctional harmony, the circle of fifths, advanced harmonic structures, transcribing solos, etc.
Both avenues can and should, if taught properly, lead you to becoming a great musician.
My goal is to help each student find the right avenue for them, helping them improve properly and answering any questions along the way.
