My name is David and I'm a Professional Bagpiper. I’m very unique when it comes to the Highland Bagpipes. My music career spans over 25 years. Although I don’t typically perform Scottish music anymore, I did start out in traditional military-style Scottish Pipe Bands. While a competitor in that field, I competed in the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland at the premier level on multiple occasions.

Today, I consider myself a competent and well-rounded musician, a soloist whose primary instrument just happens to be the Scottish Great Highland Bagpipes. Unlike many traditional bagpipe players, I have the ability to perform improvised solos over complex chord changes. I read sheet music or chord charts, I understand music theory, and I am capable of playing in many different keys despite the complicated diatonic limitations of my instrument. I’ve studied famous guitarists such as Hendrix, SRV, Grant Green, and Phelps “Catfish” Collins in order to shape my sound. I am heavily influenced by the world’s first jazz bagpiper, Rufus Harley, however my background in the competitive traditional bagpipe scene has given me an ear for tuning and intonation that others following in his footsteps may have found difficult to obtain without the proper training and/or experience.

Additionally, I can play my bagpipes through a complex pedal board with multiple effects units intended for electric guitar. You’ve never heard anything like a bagpipe played through fuzz pedals, wah, delay, and octaver before! Wait until you put an electrified bagpipe solo on your song. Your audience will be wondering “what the f&$% was that!?”...in a good way :)
