Pro Mixing from an Artist for $150

Hello, I'm Andrew!

Who am I?

First and foremost, I'm an artist - that's how I got my start in the music industry, writing songs and performing around my hometown, Amarillo, TX. Over time I really began to fall in love with studio production, building a meager home setup and producing friends' projects as often as I could. I traded the stage for the console chair and really honed my audio engineering skills when I started to run live sound at my church. This combination of studio and live engineering grew into 8 years of experience and skill.

I am now the Chief Engineer at Covenant Recording which has afforded me a great opportunity to work with a wide variety of artists and genres. I specialize in rock and heavier genres, but have also worked on latin, pop, folk, country, and Christian. My credits include Ri Wolf (Voyager Prop Records), Estrategia Nortena (Azteca Records), Bardown, Brody Blue, Texas Blues Rangers, and Redeemer Christian Church.

Why can you trust me?

As an artist, I know what artists want from an engineer. I know you don't want someone to completely change the feel of your song. I know you don't want someone who doesn't communicate well and takes over. I believe you're just as important to this process as I am.

I believe music should be captivating for every second of the song. Where listeners go back and they hear those "nuggets" from the instruments, or the emotion behind the vocals, or the massiveness when guitars kick in. This is my approach to mixing. I use lots of dynamic compression and automation to make the feel of a song hook the listener. To make the dynamics of the song hit harder. My goal is to provide top-quality sound while still maintaining the authenticity of your performance.

What's my setup?

The studio I work at offers a vintage 32-channel Neve console, the most sought after mics (U47s, U87s, Gafell condensers, C414s, and a lot more...), several racks of outboard processing (Daking FETs, LA-2A, Distressors, dbx 160s to name a few...), and a fully-tuned control room. I also like to mix at home, in my tuned mixing room, from my NS-10s and KRK Rokit 10s. Both places offer the full suite of Waves and Plugin Alliance plugins. I also have a collection of FabFilter and iZotope plugins.

I prefer to mix in-the-box because it's quicker and recall is easier. My approach is a hybrid between top-down and bottom-up approach, and I rely heavily on buss processing and saturation to really make mixes sound full and clear.
