I am not your "typical" bass player. I believe a good bass line should be more than just a thumpy noise that pops with the drums. I believe it should be another melodic line in your music that accompanies, enriches, and highlights everything else that's going on. It should help your melody soar, your harmony engage the ears, and your drums dance. If that's what your project needs, I will make you happy. When I play live I've been known pop in my Tube Screamer on occasion just make a point... I've been playing professionally for over 30 years. My roots are in jazz but I'm fluent in all styles. As a band mate, my thing has always been to play as a harmonic extension of the drums. Groove and note choice are everything to me. I don't waste time with slap gimmicks or other bass tricks.

I read and write music, so I much prefer to work from chord charts and lead sheets. The more information you provide the faster I'll come up with the bass line you're looking for. If you have ideas in mind to start with, I'll work with you to bring them to life. If you have the whole part you want written down, I'll play it like I mean it.

My primary bass is a Sadowsky PJ hybrid which gives me an enormous pallet of sounds out of one instrument. I also have an early 80's Ibanez fretless for situations when frets get in the way, and for the thoughtful ballads I have a gorgeous sounding Breedlove acoustic bass guitar strung with flatwounds. My live rig is a Markbass head with a couple different cabinets, but for your project I will record direct in my studio through my library of Slate microphone and preamp models. The ones I like best are my trade secret. What that means is the track will sound amazing. I'm also a producer and engineer, and that means I can work with you to make sure the track fits in your mix.
