Harmonica for $100
I mainly play Suzuki Promaster Diatonic Harmonicas, but I also use Seydels. I also have low tuned harmonicas (Suzuki’s & Seydels) as well as chromatic harmonicas and a tremolo harp (both Hohners). For amplified harmonica I play through a Greg Hueman Bulletini Microphone either into a Fender Vaporizer tube amp or Lone Wolf Blues Companies “Harp Attack” tube distortion pedal straight into my Zoom H6 Interface.
I’ve recorded harmonica on my own projects as a singer-songwriter (Blonde & Wildman) and in collaboration with Larson Ghormley on his dark rendition of “Oh! Susanna” that were included in the end credits of a short independent film called,”Dinner with Savages” written & directed by Ramos Smith.
In regard to my process, I establish bpm, key, song style, then see what position and what key will best fit for the song (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th or 12th). After that is accomplished, I can then decide what kind of approach should be used (lip pursed, tongue blocked, tongue splits, or a combination of all the above). Asking if the song should be recorded acoustically or electrically is also considered. Once all these things are considered and established then goes on to tracking straight into my interface or recorded into a microphone.
Depending on the job, I will include two rhythm tracks and two lead tracks automatically. I will also provide simple editing (eq & compression) and up to 3 revisions. After completion of the job, dry stems will be provided as well.
