Deryn studied music in her native South Africa where she obtained a performer's Licentiate from the University of Stellenbosch and a B Mus (Hons) from the University of Cape Town. She spent much of her early career playing in orchestras and chamber groups in South Africa and the UK. She began working with bands and producers during her time in London, and established herself as a sought after live and studio session musician, equally comfortable improvising as reading.
After moving to West Yorkshire, Deryn's focus shifted from working with bands to working with film and media composers. She is now an established remote session cellist, and works with top trailer music libraries and award-winning composers throughout Europe and North America. A few regular clients include Evolving Sound, Immediate Music, Gothic Storm, Christopher Tin, Christoph Zirngibl, Don Mescall and Michael Maas.
