I have been writing poetry and songs for roughly 20 years. I tend to write evocative lyrics that challenge my listeners, but sincerely believe that if lyrics are too esoteric they can serve only to alienate your audience. The challenge is knowing your target-audience and writing something that's accessible to them. For this reason I insist projects begin with a real time conversation, just to get an idea of who you are and where the song is coming from.
