Jan Ivelic, better known as Jan Pele, is a Croatian drummer born on May 19th 1979. His passion for music developed from a young age. He grew up listening to the likes of Miles Davis, Keith Jarrett, Weather Report, Police and Genesis, while his own father was a fusion piano player, and his uncle a drummer. His studio and live work cover more that 2000 minutes of music, live festivals and award winning albums.
Jan Pele learned to play the piano in primary school, and later became interested in drumming - teaching himself how to play. In 2007, he attended a drummer’s workshop in the ancient town of Groznjan, Croatia, where he was taught by some of the best drum instructors in the world - Gary Chaffee, John Riley, Marco Minnemann to name a few. In 2009, Jan Pele won an intensive course scholarship to the New York Drummer’s Collective, being judged by many great artists such as Bill Bruford (King Crimson), Horacio Hernandez and Pete Lockett at Croatia Drum Camp. In New York, Jan Pele was taught by Peter Ratzlaff, Marko Djordjevic and Pat Petrillo – a range of excellent musicians.
In 2010, Jan Pele played a complete show at a Dino Dvornik tribute funk concert alongside legendary fusion piano player, Mr. Jeff Lorber and late great, guitarist Mr. Jeff Golub. In the same year, he also played at the Royal Albert hall with Croatian pop legend Oliver Dragojevic – another well-known artist with whom he tours internationally. He toured the States in 2014. and in 2015 there are shows schedduled in Montreal, St.Louis, Mississauga, New Orleans, Houston, Cleveland,NY and Las Vegas.
In September 2015 he played drums and percussion for great Croatian pop singer Oliver Dragojevic along with Jerry Watts Jr.(Simon Phillips,Mike Landau), Jonathan Mover ( Aretha Franklyn, Joe Satriani), Arturo Sandoval (latin-jazz superstar) etc
