Rafi B Levy is a professional guitar player, and composer based out of Los Angeles, California. He works as a full time musician performing and recording music all around California and the surrounding areas. He performs original compositions as well as cover songs in various styles. His style of music is best described as "Soulful guitar instrumentals with influences from Spain, South America, the Mediterranean and Middle East".
Rafi began playing guitar at the age of 12. He always loved listening to different styles of music and discovering new sounds from around the world. In his earlier years he was heavily into Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop, Reggae, Rock and Blues styles. Then began exploring Middle Eastern and Flamenco music as well as Latin Styles (Salsa, Cumbia, Bachata, Bolero, etc). Listening to all these styles helped shape his sound and you can hear those influences in his playing style.
He studied at Cal Arts and Rimon School of music and with private teachers through out the years. In 2009 , after falling in love with Flamenco music, he moved to Seville Spain for 3 years to explore and study flamenco music and continued to go back and forth between Spain and Los Angeles for a few years after. Eventually he performed his music in Spain and had a great response from fans out there!
In 1998 at the age of 17 Rafi formed a band with some really great musicians who also happened to be very close friends of his. They experimented with different sounds and styles. It was a mix of Funk, Hip Hop, drum and bass and Reggae with an occasional Latin and Middle Eastern flavor! They performed in California and around the USA for 12 years and got to share the stage with top national acts like the Black Eye Peas, Mix Master Mike (Beastie Boys) and more. They wrote and released 4 albums together during those years.
In 2004 Rafi released his first solo album called "Desert Cruising in a Dub State of Mind" and in 2014 he released his 2nd solo album "Uplift Your Soul". His second album was fully funded by a successful Kickstarter Campaign , thanks to friends, fans, and family! He has sold thousands of cd's at live shows, busking, and online as well, and continues to sell is albums independently.
