Rob Steadman has been a professional touring musician for over ten years. He first started studying drum kit as a nine-year-old in his native South Africa. When he was sixteen (his family having relocated to the UK), he joined a fledgling Indie-Folk band called Stornoway. After performing as the first unsigned act on the TV show "Later... with Jools Holland" alongside Jay Z, Foo Fighters, Norah Jones, and Sting, the band signed to Indie label 4AD to release their first album "Beachcomber's Windowsill", which entered the UK charts in the top 20 and achieved a silver certification. With Stornoway, Rob has contributed to the writing, arranging, production, and performance of three studio albums, multiple EPs, and numerous charting singles.
Over the course of his career, Rob has toured throughout the world: across the UK - including performing at Glastonbury Festival every festival year between 2009 and 2015, as well as performing multiple tours across Europe, Australia, Canada, and the US. He has performed in bars and clubs, festivals, forests, caves and cliff tops. He has recorded in both bedroom studios and professional studios with the likes of George Shilling (Primal Scream, Bernard Butler, Yazz) and Gil Norton (Pixies, Foo Fighters, Patti Smith).
Aware of the importance of versatility as an artist, Rob ensures that his creative skill set reaches beyond the kit - not only in instrumentation (vocals, varied percussion, autoharp, guitar), but also in the wider creative fields. As a freelance graphic designer, Rob has designed the artwork for various artists' albums, merchandise, tour posters; book covers for writers; and promotion for corporate clients.
Rob now lives in New York City.
