The Philadelphia singer-songwriter's first guitar was at six years old when her father, a record producer and musician, gave her an little acoustic for Christmas- but she didn't take much interest in it. Many years later when at twelve she taught herself to play by watching YouTube videos and family VHS tapes of the Jimi Hendrix Experience on repeat. It wasn't until senior year of high school Shayla gave singing a try after being prompted by the choir director to join. Later that year she received an academic scholarship to Seton Hall University but to her parents devastation gave it up to study Sound Engineering at the local community college in town. Currently, she is studying vocal technique, recording technique, and independently making music.
