Currently is an active session player in major recording studios, chamber music player and teacher. Deeply interested in modern and rare viola music Javier is now working on a recording project about music for solo viola by argentinian composers. Javier Portero plays at the National Symphony Orchestra in Argentina since 2004 and is viola professor at the National Arts University in Buenos Aires. Javier Portero alternates between two instruments. An Martin Allegro viola made in Buenos Aires, his companion since 2010, and a viola made by Walter Rosso in Cremona, Italy.
