Travis Laws is a professional drummer from the Dayton, OH area who has been playing drums since he was two years old. It all began when his father, Alan, noticed him in the back seat of his car with his arms crossed as if to be playing the drums to music on the radio. From that point on, Travis was banging on pots and pans, church hymnals and anything else he could get his hands on. At the age of five, he received his first real set of drums.
By age seven, he was playing in his local church. He also played for his fathers’ southern gospel group “Firstborn” from this time until he was 13. Travis, being self-taught, hit a creative “wall” at age 15 and began taking lessons from the great Dayton, OH drummer Craig Carroll. He taught Travis how to read drum transcription and made him understand “why” he played what he played. Around the same time, Travis was taken under the wing of his uncle and nationally recognized guitar player Randy Miller. Randy hired Travis for his first recording session and in Travis’s words “turned me into a musician”. It was at this point in Travis’s life when he knew in his heart that with hard work, determination, and God’s favor, he would achieve his dream of becoming a professional musician.
Travis has toured with many major-label Contemporary Christian artists including Francesca Battistelli, Sidewalk Prophets, and Jason Crabb, just to name a few. Travis now works primarily doing remote session work from his recording studio in Nashville "The Pocket Loft".
