Rafael Delgado is one of the most active explorers and promoters of the cello in Latin American popular music. He has participated in more than 150 recording productions of folklore, tango, Afro-Peruvian music, pop and rock, among which stand out: La Grela Quinteto de Tango, Hernán Crespo Sexteto, Vuela Chiringa, Georgina Hassan Trío and Rafael Delgado Sexteto. He is the winner of the 2017 Gardel Prize in the Chamamé category, and nominated for the ACE Awards for best theater music for the play "El Rastro".
As a soloist he has released the albums "Chelfie 1 – Territorios, Rafael Delgado" (CD and digital, 2017), "Rafael Delgado Trío, en vivo" (digital, 2021) and recently "Chelfie 2 – Migrante, Rafael Delgado Sexteto" (Vinyl and digital, 2023), in which he performs his own songs and those of contemporary Latin American composers.
In his recordings he uses a German cello from the end of the 19th century and a five-string cello with a low F specially built by luthier G. Barreiro in 2016.
