Avi's passion for music began early. At age 7, Avi began playing violin in his school orchestra. After a year, deciding to put away the violin forever, he picked up the Trumpet so he could be like his older brother. Playing trumpet and taking lessons gave Avi his first experiences with large ensembles and disciplined practice.
In a few short years, Avi became infatuated with the guitar, and upon the pillars of puberty that is 8th grade, the affair was in full swing. He couldn't put it down; every day he would practice for hours on end. Around the same time, he co-founded the band Disposable Heroes inspired by the likes of Metallica, Iron Maiden, and System of a Down, and began to gig around the long island area.
College was a time of introspection for Avi, the old band broke up as he began to compose more seriously and in a variety of genres. During this time he studied rudimentary sonic arts, music theory, orchestration, and arranging at the City College of New York, where the faculty nominated and subsequently awarded him the Mark Brunswick Composition Award for excellency in composition; the Sydney Zolot Graduation Award in recognition of excellence as a composer; and the Pro Musica Award for outstanding scholarship and service. Avi graduated magna cum laude in February 2014 with a BA in Music, a specialty in Composition, and a minor in history.
Avi's DAW of choice is Logic Pro X running out of a late 2013 Haswell iMac interfaced by an Mbox Pro 3. He mixes and masters on a pair of Yamaha HS80m monitors.
