“Why did you write this song?” This is something that Justin Buck asks every artist that he works with. He doesn’t ask who or what the song is about, but why it was written. His goal as a producer is to get the artist back to the moment in which the song was written and re-capture the emotion that created the song in the first place. Even though he is familiar with many recording/production techniques and often utilizes them, he believes that music is about more than that. Music, to Buck, is more than slick production tricks and making gold records; it’s what emotions sound like.

Justin Buck grew up in Oakdale, MN. He attended the University of Minnesota and received a Bachelors of Science degree in Architecture. After graduating he worked as an assistant manager for both Hollister Co and American Eagle Outfitters. He spent nearly two years in the retail management field before deciding to return to school and pursue a degree in Music Production at McNally Smith College of Music.

Justin has been passionately building his resume as a Producer/Engineer for years. He has worked with a roster of talented artists including: Of Monsters and Men, Lana del Rey, Dawes, Mason Jennings , Girls, Cults, Crimes, Electric String Quartet, Kara Laudon, CRYPTIC, Small Town Anthem, The Last Ride, Higher Ground, and Eunice Png.

In addition to producing, Justin is a talented singer/songwriter. He has had his music featured on compilations and in 2012 he released a full length album for his band Falcon Heights. All songs were written, produced and engineered by Buck. The album is called Illusions and Chimeras (Wait & Hope). Illusions and Chimeras is a concept album centered around a passage from The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas that reads, "There were only chimeras and illusions; but for real love, for true jealousy, is there any reality except illusions and chimeras?"



2014 marked the formation of his production company Music Misfits. Music Misfits is an artist collective specializing in bringing music to the world. This takes the form of licensing opportunities, song production, composing, and help navigating the industry.
