BEARCATS sets are best described as transcendental, captivating, pounding and eclectic at their core. Known for blending multiple genres, her musical exploration touches on everything from jungle, drum’n’bass, techno, rap, to dancehall, tribal house, experimental, classical, often closing sets with hardcore and punk.
This incantation of uncompromising, pulsating rhythm and bass has brought her to perform around the world and at prestigious music festivals such as Pitchfork, Afropunk and Panorama..
Her range can be seen in her releases. From being featured on the remix album for hardcore band Divide and Dissolve and a vocal feature with Soul Glo to drum and bass instrumentals, most recently released on Nervous Records. She has been featured in Resident Advisors best music and DJ’s to watch on Soundcloud. BEARCAT has DJ’ed for other artists such as 21 Savage, SunRa and Madonna, notably opening for her Celebration tour.
She has performed and talked on panels regarding anti-racist, anti colonial rhetoric, spirituality and queer politics at universities such as Cornell, Wesleyan, Oberlin, Vassar and Bard.
Performance highlights include The Museum of Modern Art, The Guggenheim, MoMA ps1, The Whitney, Performa17. and The Brooklyn Museum.
BEARCAT has been featured in Vogue celebrating the groundbreaking Chromat runway score, which she mixed and composed. She has worked with fashion brands such as Eckhaus Latta, Courreges, Kim Shui, Nike, Grailed and Carhartt headlining fashion week events, launch parties and soundtracking.
She has contributed a Fader mix and her sets are regularly featured on NTS and RinseFM as well as a number of Boiler room performances throughout the years.
Her identity and experience in the industry led her to curate SELTZER, a club night exclusively centering and prioritizing queer black and brown talent which held a five year residency at infamous NYC nightclub Nowadays, notably BEARCAT was the first DJ to perform at the space..
BEARCAT’s next release is an album that spans experimental sounds, but stresses visual storytelling.. Throughout her journey, BEARCAT has conceived of her work as a therapeutic release, not only for those in the present, listening on the dancefloor or on streaming platforms, but as a healing exorcism that channels ancestral pasts through music.
