My name is Diego Roberto Edsel… While Dallas is my hometown, I spent my early years growing up in Florence, Italy. I was fortunate enough to travel at a young age and get a broad perspective of the world. I grew up with art being a focal point, but was conflicted with my even bigger passion for soccer. Though my passion for sports remained, at the age of 12 I picked up the guitar and I’ve never looked back.
While my parents encouraged private lessons… After just a couple of lessons with a local Florentine guitar player, I decided that I should teach myself… Stubborn I was, but convinced that I would do the job… And so I went with it.
Against my wishes, I moved back to the U.S. to complete high school and pursue a college education. It was difficult for me, growing up in Italy, to adjust to life in the U.S., but after switching schools to attend Miami Beach Senior High in 2008, I finally started to settle in. After a couple of auditions, I was offered to be a part of my first band, Acidosis.
This band helped me get my footing as a performer, and gave me the first insight into writing, arranging and performing original music, and the dynamics of a band. Aside from a couple of lineup changes, I would play with the band for years to come.
While I graduated from Miami Beach Senior High School, I then went on to study music at Miami-Dade College. The world of classical and jazz music was introduced to me, and it had a huge impact on me at the time. I was also part of a choir, which helped me train my voice more, and be part of a vocal ensemble. While Miami-Dade played a pivotal role in my music education, I aspired to attend Berklee College of Music After getting denied by Berklee the first time, I was accepted on my second try.
I attended the school with guitar as my primary instrument seeking a degree in performance. The school provided an amazing experience to learn from the best in the industry, and some of the biggest and brightest talent the music world has to offer. I was truly humbled, and I decided to take a leave of absence to gain more work experience, and to find my place in all of this.
After various restaurant jobs, I got a job at Guitar Center. This helped me better understand the business of music retail, as well as understand the components, design, and operation of guitars and amplification. I then went on to join the team at Dreamcatcher Events, who puts together educational camps with many world-class musicians. Being able to work up cl
