Dorette Roos is a professional cellist and multi-faceted performer based in Cape Town, South Africa. She completed her Bachelor of Music in cello performance at the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory of Music in the USA and obtained her Master of Music degree from the University of Stellenbosch and the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria.
As freelance cellist, Dorette engages in various styles of music – from classical music and opera, as a member of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, to lyrical and experimental genres as session musician for different recording studios, film projects and remote recordings, to improvising on electronic and current pop music as solo electric performer.
Dorette’s music talent has taken her all over the world, and as performer she has been involved in many prestigious orchestras, music festivals, film and music recordings, music and theatre productions, bands, celebrity performances and chamber music concerts.
Dorette’s newest collaboration features an energising pop duo with talented sax player Kirya Kuti and herself on electric cello called AUGMENT.
