Ethan Sobotta is a versatile Seattle-based bassist and educator, as comfortable performing symphonic music, jazz, and roots music on acoustic bass as he is with funk and rock on electric bass.
Ethan has established himself in Seattle as a strong and reliable musician with a wide range of talents, performing in the pit orchestras of many theaters in the Seattle area, as well as with local groups including The Washboard Cutups, The Wages of Sin, Touché, The Pornadoes, The Local Strangers, and Sol de Noche. He is also an active string and jazz clinician throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Ethan began playing bass at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where he studied with James Clute, former Associate Principal Bass of the Minnesota Orchestra. Since receiving his undergraduate degree, he has studied with Peter Lloyd of the Colburn School of Music, soloist/composer Patrick Neher, and jazz legend John Patitucci. He has also performed in masterclasses with Fraçois Rabbath, John Clayton, and Kristin Korb. Ethan holds a BME from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and an MM from Central Washington University.
