My name is J Combs and yes, my legal first name is one letter. I have been playing bass for over 20 years. My influences on the bass include Mike Watt, Greg Norton, Geoffrey Lyall, Ron Wood, and Kim Deal, among many others. I have played in punk rock bands, blues bands, indie rock bands and worked on a few experimental projects and avant-guard type groups. I like many types of music and projects, and I look forward to playing my bass for you.
For home studio recording, I use Garageband on a Mac-book Air, a Focusrite Scarlet interface, and a couple of different ribbon mics. I find ribbon mics best for capturing the low end.
I use either a Mesa-Boogie M-Pulse mplifier with a tube-driven front end, or an A.M.P. BH-420 solid state amplifier. For speaker cabinets, I use either a vintage Music Man 15 inch cabinet, a Bag-End 15 inch cabinet or a Hartke 4x10 cabinet. This allows me to produce a wide range of tones.
For instruments, I have a Fender Jazz bass, a G&L LB100, and a G&L SB-2, all passive. I can deliver almost any bass tone one would want.
I will make and record a bass part for your song in both a mic'd and a direct track for you to mix as you see fit. In most cases, I will be able to produce your bass part in less than 3 days.
I look forward to working with you.-J
