Karolis Šarkus is one of the young generation jazz musicians from Lithuania. National press already described him as a very promising music figure. Started from classical saxophone at the age of 6, Karolis now is a versatile player doing multiple music styles, however focusing on jazz. He finished his bachelor and master studies in Conservatorium van Amsterdam under direction of Jasper Blom and Simon Rigter, studied in the Philadelphia with Dick Oatts for a while. Karolis has already performed numerous times in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Switzerland, The Netherlands, The Czech Republic, Romania. Furthermore, he won some international competitions - 7th International Student Jazz Festival (Grand Prix - Targu Mures, RO), Vilnius Jazz Young Power 2014 (Grand Prix - Vilnius, LT), 22nd International Juozas Pakalnis Competition (Grand Prix - Vilnius, LT) and recently became a winner of Premio Internazionale Massimo Urbani (2021) which is one of the most important Italian competitions for jazz soloists. Karolis is a steady member of five bands and co-leads his own trio, quintet and a jazz group Collaborative Jazz Septet. As a sideman, he recorded 6 albums with different bands, played with names like Stefano Bolanni, Stefano di Battista, David Linx and others. In 2021 he released his debut album “Palette of Feelings” which was warmly received in Europe as well as got positive feedback from some professionals in US. Track #7, Maejor has hit more than 25000 streams in Spotify up until now and was feautred in a few editorial playlists.
