I am a multi-instrumentalist (drums, guitar, bass), and a formally educated audio producer. My inspiration to play drums was Rush/Neil Peart (and yes, I can play that stuff). My playing career includes mostly original projects, mostly rock, and mostly in the New Orleans area. I play rock, country, jazz, funk, and metal. I have a beautiful custom DW kit and lots of toys for making sounds, including a Roland SPD-SX PRO.
I also play guitar and bass. I have 2 electric guitars, both extremely high quality instruments. One is an original Kramer Focus 2000, the other I call the "Mattocaster," which I built. I custom specified the neck and bought the neck and body both from Warmoth. I have a Martin 000XE acoustic, and an Ibanez SRX300 bass guitar with active electronics.
I run bass direct, and my guitars run through either a Rivera Jake Studio combo, or an Orange Tiny Terror, Jim Root edition.
I graduated from the Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences in 1997, and so am formally educated in audio production. That education led to a career in the commercial audio video business, and not music, so while I have all the skills, I haven't been very prolific in the arts side of things.
Because I play all those instruments, and because I am a recording engineer/producer, I have an in-depth understanding of the fabric of music and how each fiber of that fabric stitches together into finished music. For example, rather than getting the greatest guitar tone, I look at the guitar tone in the context of the music and sonic information surrounding it.
