Charles Butler is one of Nashville’s leading progressive banjo players. Over the years he has made his mark performing with an eclectic list of musical acts, including Langhorne Slim, Beats Antique, Kristy Cox and The Tom Peng Newgrass Band. Additionally, Charles has performed with The Nashville Symphony Chorus at both The Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville as well as Carnegie Hall in New York City. Currently, Charles lends his banjo picking to The Rebecca Frazier Band as well as his own group, Easy Green.

In 2022, Charles released his first full length album of original banjo music, titled ‘Duck’s Eye’. This album has been played on numerous radio stations in the US, including Sirius XM’s popular progressive bluegrass program ‘Derailed’. In its review of ‘Duck’s Eye’, the magazine Bluegrass Today called it “a project full of creativity and exploration.” Charles’ instrumental music can also be heard in the background of many television shows such as The Voice, American Pickers, Pawn Stars, Last Call with Carson Daly, and Sanjay & Craig.

Butler is also known for publishing solo banjo videos on YouTube, such as his 2013 cover of Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’, which garnered 1.8 million views and lead to the Huffington Post labeling him a “Banjo Extraordinare”. In 2020, Charles presented a banjo performance of ‘Get Lucky’ and other solo arrangements via virtual stage as part of the renowned Burning Man Festival. The YouTube channel @charlesbutlerbanjo now features about 200 videos of Charles’ banjo music, and is growing steadily.
