Strings for $300
I can cover anything from a solo violin to an entire string section. I stack all the instruments myself and have several different violins violas and cellos to help with a full sound. I record into AEA ribbon mics, into a Grace preamp. My instruments and gear are top quality and makes for a nice addition to tracks. Most recently I’ve stacked strings for recordings with Cage the Elephant, Dan Auerbach, Jake Bugg and also recorded strings on the soundtrack of Red Dead Redemption. My studio is located outside of Nashville where I also supply strings to music for TV and film. Dan Auerbach’s song “King of a One Horse Town” is a good example of my string stack.
Before I stack up strings I generally work out the general framework of the arrangement in Kontact and send for approval. At that point we can edit parts until the strings framework is in place. Once the arrangement is approved, I record all the parts. For a bigger strings sound I stack 6 violins, 3 violas and two cellos. Some passes will have mutes for a better sound. For a more intimate sound I can also just stack a standard quartet.
I live just outside Nashville and In addition to my work in my how studio I work in Nashville studios as a freelance session musician. I work on my own and with the Nashville Recording Orchestra—Nashville’s premiere recording orchestra.
